Besdine's receipt for Successful Ageing

Prof. R.W.Besdine has an incredible CV and I was very curious to attend his seminar on "Successful Ageing" at Padua University- Medicine.

He is a geriatrist with more than 40 years of expericence with elderly patients and as many U.S. citizens:
- He loves achronims;
- He has a personal receipt for "Successful Ageing".

So he decided to combine the 2 and formulated the Besdine's receipt.

B LOOD PRESSURE.......... B OOZE -ALCHOOL PROBLEMS

S MOKE CESSATION........ O STEOPOROSIS
D RIVING SAFETELY........ M OBILITY AVOID FALLS
I MMUNIZZATIONS ..........E MOTIONAL HEALTH
N UTRITION ...................Rx DRUGS SAFETY

'S CREENING FOR CANCER

He pointed out that Italy as well as Europe and US has a very old population
with citzens > 65 years old at 22%.
We are loosing many opportunities to keep our body in good shape; for example more than 73% of peolple aged 65-73 make no physical activity.

But if there is a TAKE HOME MESSAGE from this seminar is that
"
Behavioural changes is the most important factor for Successful Ageing".

Behavioural-linked risk factors like cigarette smoking and nutritional unbalances accounts for more than 60% of our future health conditions.

"We are expecting great news form vaccines, genetics and new drugs but there is something very simple that we can do immediately...

I asked: Can we talk about "lifestyle medicine ?"
He answered: " I never used this term but I like it very much...I am going to use it fom now on.."
